LEEF issues 2014 Grant Awards, bringing the total awarded to over $1 million dollars since inception in 2002....
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB) — The Longmeadow Educational Excellence Foundation, known as LEEF, awarded teachers and district administrators with $97,298 Thursday afternoon October 2, 2014.
LEEF was started in 2001, and since then, the volunteer-based organization has raised over $1 million in grants for Longmeadow Public Schools.
This year’s 39 grants — which total just under $100,000 — will help enable Longmeadow Public Schools to fulfill educational needs not covered by the school budget. For instance, one fifth grade class will be able to put on a full newscast once a week.
“We have anchors, and reporters, and videographers, and editors,” explains 5th grade teacher, Laura Giogglio. “And, we needed a computer, to do all of our editing and producing.”
LEEF’s executive board meets throughout the year to come up with new fundraising efforts.
